How is the genre of TV crime drama shown in the clip. (Mise-en-scene, characters, props, themes, sequences)
Give examples of how camera angles and shots have been used effectively.
How has meaning been created through the performance of the actors?
Assess the use of sound in the clip.
1. The genre of the TV drama is shown in the clip in several different ways. The drama uses mise-en-scene by having the setting of a police questioning room. This isolates the characters and by using no non-diegetic sound while in the questioning room this makes it seem like you are actually there and makes it a lot more tense as you can only hear what the characters are saying and makes it seem more realistic. The characters used are used very well. This is used well because the two people who are questioning the suspect are used to look threatning to the suspect being questioned by moving around and standing above the suspect and watching his every movement to see anything that he does wrong. The props that are used are all the stereotypical things that you would see in a questioning room eg evidence, photos and a recorder to record the whole interview.
2. Over the shoulder shot- Used to show the police officers faces as they interview the man
Dominant camera shots- When the interviewer is looking down at the interviewee
Close up shots- Used to show the emotions in all the peoples faces while each of the characters are talking and shows that the interviewer is looking at the hankie when it zooms in on the hankie to look out for signs of nervousness in the interviewee. The close up shot is also used in 4 different sections to show the interviewers and interviewees reactions all at the same time.
The camera also keeps moving up on the interviewees face when he is in power and has all the answers and looks down on him when the interviwers have the upper hand and put him under pressure.
3. Meaning has been created through the performance of the characters in several diferent ways. This is used well because the two people who are questioning the suspect are used to look threatning to the suspect being questioned by moving around and standing above the suspect and watching his every movement to see anything that he does wrong. The suspect is made to look like he is not scared of the officers and doesnt make much eye contact with the people questioning him. Also at the end of the clip he stands up and asks for a lawyer to take the pressure off himself.
4.Throughout the clip the only sound which is used in this clip is diegetic sound. This is used for the writers dialogue which is the main diegetic sound which is used throughout this clip and is used throughout the time the characters are in the questioning room. This is done so that it feels like it is more realistic to the audience and by using no non diegetic sound while in the questioning room it makes it seem like it isnt a TV show and that the show is real.
